Rapti river water level rises affecting over 40 villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur – World News Network

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 16 (ANI): Around 48 villages in Gorakhpur have been affected after the water level of the Rapti River on Tuesday rose one metre above the danger level.
Gorakhpur SSP Dr. Gaurav Grover paid a visit to a few affected villages, talked to the residents and assured them.
Gorakhpur SSP Dr. Gaurav Grover said, “Today, the water level of Rapti River has risen a little. The spread of water in normal areas was monitored today. We also visited a few affected villages. We spoke with the residents…We are ready to face any kind of situation…”
Gorakhpur DM Krishna Karunesh said that the water level is expected to recede. He informed that food packets and rations have been distributed to residents in all the affected villages.
Gorakhpur DM Krishna Karunesh said, “The Rapti river is flowing one metre above the danger level in Gorakhpur. But now the river is stable. So, we are expecting the water level to now recede. Around 48 villages in the district were affected. Food packets and rations are being distributed in all affected villages. Regular patrolling of dams is being done.”
He further added that health teams have been deployed and a sufficient stock of medicines has been kept. “Around 28 health teams are being deputed for health camps. There are sufficient medicines…Today, we were monitoring areas to see if relief items had reached the people in the affected areas,” he stated.
The situation in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the eastern and central regions, is also under observation after an increase in the water levels of several rivers following incessant rains, impacting around 18 lakh people in more than 900 villages.
As per officials, nearly 18 districts, including Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Kushinagar, Shravasti, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gonda Siddharth Nagar, Moradabad, Bareilly and Basti in Uttar Pradesh, were affected by the increased water level.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier conducted an aerial survey of the affected districts and directed the officials to provide all possible assistance to the affected people. (ANI)
