Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) [India], July 17 (ANI): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday that 30 per cent of country’s total steel production will be done in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli in coming days.
Fadnavis was speaking to reporters after doing ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for Surjagad Ispat Pvt Ltd steel project.
“…We have done the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ of Surjagad integrated steel plant in Gadchiroli with an investment of Rs 10,000 crores. Due to this, the local people and tribals will get a lot of benefits. About 8 million tonnes of steel will be produced here. In Chamorshi as well 35 thousand investments are being and 20 thousand people will be employed. And when all these projects will be completed Gadchiroli will produce 30 per cent of the country’s steel…”
“Our government is working to transform Gadchiroli, in all MoUs and land allotment we have made it clear that 80 per cent employment will be given to the locals, he added.
Notably, Gadchiroli is one of the most Naxal affected districts in Maharashtra. The district also has large reserves of iron ore.
Earlier, in a bid to capitalise on the growth opportunity available in India, Tata Steel on Monday said it has sufficient manufacturing sites available to double its manufacturing capacity. The steelmaker currently produces 21 million tonnes per annum in India, and doubling it could take it to around 40 million tonne per annum.
In India, Tata Steel largely operates in Jamshedpur and Gamharia in Jharkhand, as well as in Kalinganagar and Meramandali in Odisha. (ANI)
