Nandurbar (Maharashtra) [India], July 18 (ANI): The body of a six-month-old infant who was washed away in the swift currents of an overflowing nullah on July 16 was found on Wednesday, officials said.
Nandurbar Tahsildar Dipak Girase said that the infant was travelling with his parents to Shahada and was washed away in the swift currents of an overflowing nallah.
“At 11 pm Tuesday night, Manoj Thackeray, his wife and an infant were travelling to Shahada when they tried to cross an overflowing nullah on a motorcycle, as they could not assess the water current. Due to rain, the water level has increased. The man’s wife and infant, as well as the motorcycle, were washed away in the swift current,” Girase told ANI.
“The woman was rescued, the motorcycle was retrieved but the child could not be rescued. The infant’s body was found on Wednesday morning,” he added.
Many states across India have been experiencing heavy rains for the last several days, causing flooding and the loss of lives and property.
Amid heavy rain and thunderstorms in many parts of Maharashtra, the Kamwari River in the Bhiwandi area of Thane was overflowing, causing water to enter the houses of people living near the banks.
Knee-deep water has filled the houses of people living in the Sultania Gali slum area near the Kamwari River in Bhiwandi, displacing many people from their homes due to the rise in river water level. (ANI)
