New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Delhi is witnessing a development revolution as he inaugurated two major National Highway projects, the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The projects are worth a combined cost of nearly Rs 11,000 crore.
PM Modi highlighted that the new highways will increase the convenience of the people living in Delhi-NCR.
Addressing the event on Sunday, PM Modi said, “This month of August is coloured in the colours of freedom and revolution. In the midst of this festival of freedom, today, the country’s capital, Delhi, is witnessing a development revolution. A little while ago, Delhi got the connectivity of Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road. This will increase the convenience of the people of the entire NCR of Delhi, Gurugram. This will ease transportation for people to reach their offices and factories. It will save everyone’s time.”
The Prime Minister reiterated his vision of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ and expressed his willingness to make Delhi a “model of development”, mentioning that the world evaluates India from its capital city.
PM Modi pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party government aspires to transform Delhi into a model of development and present it as the capital of a rapidly advancing India.
“On 15th August, from the Red Fort, I spoke with confidence about the country’s economy, the country’s self-reliance and the country’s self-confidence. When the world sees and evaluates India, its first glance falls on our capital, Delhi. Therefore, we have to make Delhi such a model of development, where everyone feels that yes, this is the capital of a developing India,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi said that the construction of the newly inaugurated Urban Extension Road-II, has also helped in “freeing Delhi from the mountains of garbage.”
“Urban Extension Road has another feature, it is helping in freeing Delhi from the mountains of garbage. Lakhs of tons of waste have been used in building the Urban Extension Road. By reducing the mountains of garbage, the waste material has been used in building the road, and it has been done in a scientific way,” PM Modi said.
Noting that people near the Bhalswa landfill are facing numerous health and pollution issues, PM Modi assured that the government is working to solve their problems.
“Bhalswa landfill is located nearby. We all know how many problems there are for the families living around here. Our government is engaged in freeing the people of Delhi from every such problem,” he said.
PM Modi expressed gratitude to people for electing the BJP government in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. He took a jibe at the Opposition, accusing the Aam Aadmi Party of “creating hostilities” between Haryana and Delhi people during their tenure and said that the Delhi-NCR has been “freed from such negative politics”
“However, there are some political parties that are still unable to digest the people’s blessings. They have become completely disconnected from the people’s trust and ground realities. You may recall that a few months ago, efforts were made to create hostility between the people of Delhi and Haryana, pitting them against each other. It was even said that the people of Haryana were poisoning Delhi’s water. Today, Delhi and the entire NCR have been freed from such negative politics,” PM Modi said.
The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) have been developed under the Government’s comprehensive plan to decongest the capital, with the objective of greatly improving connectivity, cutting travel time, and reducing traffic in Delhi and its surrounding areas. These initiatives reflect Prime Minister Modi’s vision of creating world-class infrastructure that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility.
The 10.1 km long Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of around Rs. 5,360 crore. The section will also provide Multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC Blue line and Orange line, upcoming Bijwasan railway station and Dwarka cluster Bus Depot. This section comprises:
Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21.
Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana Border, providing direct connectivity to Urban Extension Road-II.
The 19 km long Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway was earlier inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024.
Prime Minister inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at a cost of around Rs 5,580 crore. It will ease traffic on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and busy points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. The new spurs will give direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, improve industrial connectivity, cut city traffic, and speed up goods movement in the National Capital Region. (ANI)
