“By accepting American mediation, PM Modi has betrayed country’s sentiments”: AAP Sanjay Singh – World News Network

New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh criticised the Modi administration during a special discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday.
According to an AAP statement, he accused the government of undermining national sentiment by accepting United States mediation in its ceasefire agreement with Pakistan.
“The ceasefire wasn’t announced from Indian soil but from American soil–by U.S. President Trump. On May 8, while our soldiers were fighting on the ground, the Indian government was holding talks with Pakistan’s ISI chief, Asim Malik,” Sanjay Singh said.
The AAP MP further slammed the government’s justification for the ceasefire, asking, “You claim Pakistan pleaded and you relented. But when our own sisters pleaded for protection, terrorists didn’t relent–so why did the Government of India?”
While asserting that the opposition will always stand with the nation in times of crisis, Sanjay Singh warned the government to stop dividing people and branding dissenters as traitors, the statement added.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, AAP MP Sanjay Singh first offered heartfelt tributes to those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack and raised a series of pointed questions about the Modi government’s security preparedness, transparency, and political accountability.
In the release, it stated that an AAP MP in parliament criticising the government said, “During Operation Sindoor, 16 civilians in Kashmir were killed, and many brave Indian Army personnel made the supreme sacrifice while giving a fitting reply to Pakistan. Since Monday, the government has been publicly praising itself over Operation Sindoor. While we will always salute the bravery of our armed forces, we will question the government’s incompetence a thousand times.”
Raising serious concerns over the Pahalgam attack, he asked how five terrorists managed to enter 200 km inside Indian territory and slaughter innocent civilians in Baisaran. “Who is responsible for the failure of the intelligence agencies?” he demanded.
Sanjay Singh disclosed that in an all-party meeting, the government had claimed Baisaran Valley was only accessible during the Amarnath Yatra.
“But later, we learnt the valley remains open year-round. Then why were no security arrangements made? Tourists screamed for help, but no one came. I visited the house of Shubham Dwivedi, who was killed in the attack. His wife was inconsolable. His father said only one thing: ‘My son gave his life for the country. At least recognise the victims as martyrs.'”
Criticising the Prime Minister’s absence, Sanjay Singh stated, “After the attack, the Home Minister visited Baisaran, and the Prime Minister–who was in Saudi Arabia–returned to India. The whole country expected him to visit Pahalgam. Instead, on 24 April, he went to Bihar for election campaigning. On 1 May, he travelled to Maharashtra, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh for inaugurations. He met film stars but did not go to meet the families of those killed in Pahalgam. The question is, what should have been the PM’s priority?”
Taking a jibe at the PM’s repeated absences from Parliament, the AAP MP said, “People kept asking–where is the Prime Minister? Why hasn’t he come to the House? It seems the PM is not a human being; he’s an avatar. He can appear anywhere without being physically present. He is non-biological. A serious debate was happening in both Houses of Parliament, yet the ’18-hour working’ PM didn’t attend for even 2 hours. It shows he doesn’t understand the importance of this discussion.”
Questioning the government’s respect for the armed forces, Sanjay Singh pointed out that army recruitment had been halted for three years, reducing the force by 1.80 lakh personnel. “Joining the army used to be a matter of pride for Indian youth. But now, they’re given only four-year contracts under the Agniveer scheme. This government has billions for its friends, but no money to pay full salaries to soldiers. There’s no money for pensions for BSF, CRPF, paramilitary forces, or for honouring bereaved soldiers.”
Sanjay Singh charged the government with betraying India’s long-standing policy of rejecting third-party mediation in Indo-Pak matters. “Since Monday, the government claims to have declared a unilateral ceasefire. They say no third country was involved. But since independence, India has consistently rejected third-party mediation in Pakistan’s affairs. If anyone has betrayed this principle, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ceasefire was announced not from Indian soil, but from American soil–on 10 May, via a tweet by then-US President Donald Trump. Our forces were fighting while Trump tweeted that a ceasefire had happened,” he asserted.
The AAP MP further revealed, “US Secretary Marco Rubio tweeted that over the past 48 hours, PM Modi, Pakistan’s PM, and ISI chief Asim Malik were in contact. On 8 May, when our soldiers were fighting, the Indian government was negotiating with the very man–ISI’s Asim Malik–who sponsors terrorism. On 5 June, Pakistan was made vice-chair of the UN’s Anti-Terror Committee at America’s behest. This is the same Pakistan that harboured Osama bin Laden, gave shelter to Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed, and attacked Mumbai’s Taj Hotel, Parliament, Akshardham, Uri, Pulwama, and Red Fort.”
He slammed the government for capitulating, “The Government says Pakistan begged, and we agreed. But our sisters were begging in Pahalgam, and the terrorists didn’t listen–so why did the Government of India listen? Pakistan’s DGMOs gave empty assurances, and the Modi government accepted them. On 19 June, Trump hosted Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and ISI head Aasim Malik for a private lunch. When asked what was achieved, Trump replied, ‘I stopped a war. I love Pakistan.’ While Pakistan and the US were romancing each other, PM Modi was visiting the US on 14 February. Just days earlier, Indian citizens were shackled and deported from the US to Amritsar, but Modi didn’t raise a single objection,” asserted the AAP MP.
Sanjay Singh pointed to a troubling pattern: “On 25 July, Pakistan’s Deputy PM visited the US and met the US Secretary. Secretary Marco Rubio thanked Pakistan for fighting terrorism. This, despite Pakistan using US funds to sponsor terrorism against India.”
Condemning the character assassination of Indian heroes, Sanjay Singh said, “A BJP minister in Madhya Pradesh called Colonel Sofiya, a brave daughter of the Indian Army, a terrorist’s sister. Offensive posts were written about Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s daughter on social media, but no action was taken. Misri had to lock his own Twitter account. Himanshu Narwal’s widow merely appealed to fight terrorism firmly, but maintain peace at home. She said nothing was wrong. But the BJP uses every opportunity to stoke division. After the Pahalgam attack, we were paying tribute when BJP’s Twitter handle asked, ‘Was the victim’s religion asked, not caste?’ In UP, preachers are being killed after being asked their caste.”
Calling out the hypocrisy of China, Sanjay Singh said, “During Operation Sindoor, China fully backed Pakistan, even supplying missiles. Yet, look at what the government has done. After the Galwan clash in 2020, the Modi government imported Rs 4.83 lakh crore worth of goods from China. In 2021-22, imports rose to Rs 7.10 lakh crore. In 2022-23, it became Rs 8.03 lakh crore. In 2023-24, Rs 8.38 lakh crore. In 2024-25, Rs 9.41 lakh crore. In just five years, India imported Rs 37 lakh crore worth of goods from China, while China armed Pakistan. And this PM swings on jhoolas with the Chinese President.”
He further highlighted the link between drugs, terrorism, and Adani’s port. “On 18 March 2025, the Home Ministry was asked in Lok Sabha how many drugs were seized in five years. The government admitted Rs 260 crore worth of goods were caught at Adani’s Mundra Port. On 26 May 2022, Rs 150 crore worth of heroin was caught there. NIA told the Supreme Court that Rs 21,000 crore worth of drugs–funding terrorism–was seized from Adani’s port. Drugs are flooding in from Pakistan and Afghanistan. Adani, the PM’s closest friend, owns the port. What action has been taken against those involved?” the AAP MP asked.
Sanjay Singh concluded by condemning the politicisation of national security: “The government says politics should not be done over Operation Sindoor. But who politicises every issue? The Modi government does. They label the opposition traitors. The PM travels the world, but no country stands with us. Yet, when in need, they ask opposition MPs to represent India globally. Even AAP’s two MPs went abroad to support the government’s position. We will always stand with the country in times of crisis. But stop dividing people, calling them traitors, and insulting them.” (ANI)
