New Delhi [India], December 27 (ANI): BJP MP Naveen Jindal mourned the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday.
Jindal termed the demise of the former PM as a “sad day” for all of us and stated that everyone can take a lot of inspiration from his life.
Speaking to ANI, Jindal said, ” Dr Manmohan Singh ji was always a silent doer, he believed in doing work without making any noise. In 1991, when he was the Finance Minister, he played a key role in strengthening the country, he ended the Licence, Quota, and Permit Raj…he used to take everyone along…we can take a lot of inspiration from his life…it is a sad day for all of us.”
Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister and Congress leader MB Patil on Friday expressed condolences over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Applauding him for his contributions, Patil called him one of the “greatest” Prime Ministers and said he shaped the country into a global economic power.
Speaking to ANI, MB Patil said, “Manmohan Singh was one of the greatest PMs of our country. It was Dr Manmohan Singh who shaped this country into a global economic power. Today, we are the 5th largest economy in the world, very soon we are going to 4th largest and eventually 3rd this. He had laid the foundation for this, first as a Finance Minister in Narishma Rao cabinet and then as a PM. He shaped a strong India…”
Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Thursday evening at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. He had a sudden loss of consciousness at home after which he was rushed to the AIIMS Delhi.
Singh, renowned for introducing the 1991 economic liberalisation reforms as the Finance Minister of India, will be cremated near Rajghat, at the location where the last rites of Prime Ministers are performed.
Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932. Apart from being an economist, Manmohan Singh served as Reserve Bank of India governor from 1982-1985. He was the 13th PM of India with his tenure from 2004-2014 and was the longest-serving PM after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
Serving as the finance minister of India in PV Narasimha Rao’s government, Singh has been given credit for economic liberalisation in the country in 1991. The reforms made the Indian economy more accessible to foreign investors, which increased FDI and reduced government control. It greatly contributed to the country’s economic growth. (ANI)
