Surat (Gujarat) [India], September 16 (ANI): Surat police have intensified security in view of Milad-Un-Nabi and Ganesh idol immersion to ensure peaceful celebrations.
The heightened security has been put in place given the stone-pelting incident at a Ganesh Pandal in the Sayedpura area of Surat on September 9.
While speaking to ANI on Sunday evening, Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said that the police have made a lot of preparations as processions will be taken out on Monday on the occasion of Milad-Un-Nabi and Ganesh idol immersion processions to be held on September 17.
“More than 15,000 state police personnel and home guards will be deployed and to help them, there will be 11 teams of State Reserve Police and one team of Rapid Action Force,” Anupam Singh Gehlot said.
He further said that a special unit of the state police has been kept on standby to deal with any situation and appealed for peaceful celebrations.
“Surveillance will also be done with drone cameras. We appeal to everyone not to pay attention to any rumour and celebrate the festival peacefully,” he added.

Earlier, the city police conducted a flag march ahead of the commencement of celebrations.
On September 9, 27 people were arrested in connection with the stone pelting incident in Sayedpura. (ANI)
