Tripura: 32 dead due to heavy rains, floods since Aug 19, state declared as Natural Calamity Affected Area – World News Network

Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 29 (ANI): Following continuous rainfall and floods since August 19 in the state, 32 people have lost their lives, with two getting injured and one missing in Tripura till Thursday, as per an official press release by the State Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department.
As per the release, the state government has decided to declare the entire state a “Natural Calamity Affected Area.” As of today, 346 relief camps are operational by district administration, providing shelter to around 52,906 flood-affected people in the state.
A Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has also arrived at the state on Wednesday to assess the on-spot damages in the affected areas of South Tripura and Gomati Districts. The IMCT team was led by the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs, BC Joshi.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Labour Department had decided to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 4000 each to registered flood-affected construction workers from the labour cess.
A total of Rs 17,19,24,000 has been allocated for this assistance, which will benefit the 42,981 registered construction workers across the state. The distribution of registered workers by the district is as follows: West Tripura District has 13,148, Sepahijala District has 5,899, Gomati District has 5,698, South Tripura District has 4,133, Khowai District has 4,529, Dhalai District has 3,592, Unakoti District has 3,861 and North Tripura District has 2,121.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 5 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for immediate assistance to bloster the flood relief efforts in Tripura.
“In aid of those affected by the devastating floods in Tripura, Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned from the Arunachal CM’s Relief Fund to provide immediate assistance to those in need. On behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Tripura during this challenging time. We stand in solidarity with you, and together, we will overcome this crisis,” Arunachal CM posted on X. (ANI)
