Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 13 (ANI): Welcoming the Calcutta High Court’s order for a CBI investigation into the sexual assault and murder of a female trainee doctor, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said on Tuesday that it will reveal who is involved in this. She also alleged that this heinous crime was not a one-person job.
Chatterjee targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating, “A CBI inquiry has been ordered. We welcome this because we know that in all such incidents that have happened in West Bengal, no action has been taken by Mamata Banerjee. A daughter has been murdered in the RG Kar Hospital, a CBI investigation will tell us who is involved in this. Kolkata Police and the CID cannot do this. Because it is the police who lied in the beginning.”
“The police called her parents and said that it was a suicide. The CBI should acquire all the evidence immediately because they might tamper with it. This heinous crime was not a one-person job. Names of all the influential people involved should be out in the open,” the BJP leader added.
BJP leader Shazia Ilmi slammed the TMC government and demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee and the Health Minister.
“This was much needed and we welcome this. It is grotesque, what’s happened. I don’t know who is getting protection here and why. Sanjoy Roy, why was this person there in the first place? How come he has unfettered access to all the departments? How can a young girl get mutilated, humiliated, raped, murdered How come the CCTV cameras were not working? It’s extremely shameful and I’m glad that CBI will look into this. Mamata Banerjee and the health minister should have resigned,” she said.
“At whose behest was this man being encouraged? Who are they trying to protect? Such a grotesque act could not have happened within 30-35 minutes, which is demonstrated by the entry and exit of this person,” Shazia Ilmi added.
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission (NMC) under the directions of Union Health Minister JP Nadda issued an advisory to all medical colleges and institutions to develop a policy for a safe work environment.
According to the official public notice, “Incidents of violence against doctors in medical colleges have been reported in the recent past. All medical colleges are requested to develop a policy for a safe work environment within the college and hospital campus for all the staff members including faculty, medical students and resident doctors.”
“The policy should ensure adequate safety measures at OPD, wards, casualty, hostels and other open areas in the campus and residential quarters. Corridors and campus be well-lit in the evening for staff to walk safely from one place to another and all sensitive areas be covered by CCTV for monitoring,” it said.
Earlier in the day, Nadda met with a delegation from the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The IMA had requested a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the crime and measures to enhance the safety of doctors, particularly women, in the workplace.
The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
The family has alleged that the victim was raped and murdered. The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday transferred the investigation into the case to the CBI. (ANI)
