New Delhi [India], July 18 (ANI): Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh spoke to ANI today about the CUET-UG result delay and said that there are two issues to deal with. The first is that the result has not been declared.
He said, “There are two issues here, the result has not been declared but it will come very soon. After that, we will start our counselling. But there will be a delay of about 2 weeks.” Further, he added that he is hoping for the first-year classes to start soon and will be held by August 16 or 17. He also added that the regular semesters for the second and third-year law students and B.Tech. students will start on August 1.
He also appealed to the students, saying that their years would not be wasted.
“I am hopeful that 1st year classes, where we are making admission through CUET, will be held by August 16-17. But we are starting our regular semester for 2nd and 3rd-year students, B.Tech students and law fifth-year students on August 1. So, there will be a slight delay but we will cover up that delay. We will cover that as well. There is no need to worry. I would like to appeal to our students to have a positive outlook,” he said.
Additionally, he spoke about the money crunch DU was facing and said that this was a very difficult situation for the 12 colleges of the university. Further, he added that the issue is regarding the postings and salaries of the professors and that the colleges will also have to opt for other ways of recruiting.
“This is a very difficult and strange situation that is happening in 12 of our colleges, which are funded by Delhi University. The issue is regarding the salaries and postings of the professors. We have also constituted a committee and the committee’s report has already been submitted to the government. We all should understand the sensitivity of the subject and then take the necessary actions that are expected because now students and teachers are suffering because of a lack of funds. In DU, in the last 2 years, we have made 4,600 recruitments.”
Further, he continued, “Many teachers of those 12 colleges have regular jobs in other colleges. So, there is more than 60 per cent of vacancies in those colleges. These colleges will now have to go for other ways of recruiting, however, there is a limit to which they can do this. The government of Delhi should take necessary actions that are expected and necessary for the welfare of teachers and students.”
Days ahead of the budget presentation, he also spoke about the Union Budget and said that they are getting adequate grants from the government of India. Further, he said that the university plans on implementing the National Education Policy next year.
“We are very happy and waiting for the Union Budget. When it comes to the University of Delhi, we are getting adequate grants from the Government of India. Last year, we also received adequate funding from the government. But yes, we are very excited because this budget will set a tone for the ‘sankalp’ of Viksit Bharat. We want to grow to 40 billion dollars, which is a very big jump. I am very hopeful that this budget will provide the foundations for this jump for our country to become the Viksit Bharat,” he said.
“There is always a need to invest more in education, there is no debate on that. But now we are implementing the National Education Policy and the University of Delhi will have its third year under NEP. NEP will start next year in our colleges. So, we are working on additional infrastructure and this budget will give a decent amount to education. Education and health are both priority sectors of the government. When we have taken a ‘Sankalp’ for Viksit Bharat by 2047, this will not happen without the active participation of higher education in our country,” the DU Vice-Chancellor further added. (ANI)
