Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 13 (ANI): Days after a SpiceJet employee was arrested for “slapping” a Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Jaipur airport, the woman employee claimed that the CISF’s Assistant Sub-Inspector had used derogatory remarks against her.
Notably, on Thursday, ASI Giriraj Prasad was allegedly slapped at Jaipur Airport.
The SpiceJet employee said that she was doing her work on July 11 at 4:30 am when ASI Prasad allegedly passed indecent comments on her. When she threatened to file a police complaint against the ASI, he said he would ensure that she is removed from service.
“I was doing my work when ASI Giriraj Prasad said ‘humey bhi apna seva-paani ka mauka do’, ‘ek raat rukne ka kya logi’…I told him that I would file a police complaint against you to which he said ‘tumhare jaisi bazaaru aurat maine bohot dekhi hai, tumhey naukri se nikalwa dunga’…,” the SpiceJet employee told ANI.
She further claimed that the ASI filed a complaint against her before she did.
“He filed a complaint against me before I did. I have not complained anywhere else except to the police…,” she said.
Emphasising that she is well versed with the rules and regulations at SpiceJet, the employee said, “I am about to complete 5 years at SpiceJet…I know very well what are the rules and regulations, so their statement that I was forcing to go inside and that I did not have a valid card is wrong…”
Speaking about the incident, she said that she has been through similar security checks on a daily basis and she usually coordinates with women staff.
“We meet CISF staff every day but usually, we coordinate with the female staff. We do not even talk to the male staff on a daily basis…,” she said adding, “There is a female staff there in the morning every day but there are no female staff at night.”
“It happens every day that we take the catering van, give them the slip and we go towards the departure hall. There is never any female staff there…,” she emphasised.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the employee was asked to undergo mandatory screening at the nearby entrance for airline crew, but no female CISF personnel were available at the time. According to a senior CISF official, the situation escalated when the female employee became agitated and slapped the on-duty CISF personnel.
“A female SpiceJet employee was asked to undergo mandatory screening at the nearby entrance for airline crew at Jaipur airport, but no female CISF personnel were available at the time. The female employee got agitated and slapped the on-duty CISF personnel. A case has been registered against her and she has been arrested,” said a senior CISF official.
SpiceJet responded swiftly to the incident, issuing an official statement that presented a different perspective on the altercation.
Reacting to the statement, SpiceJet Airlines, in an official reply, said, “Today, an unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel. While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home.”
The airline further announced its commitment to taking immediate legal action, characterizing the event as a serious case of sexual harassment.
“SpiceJet is taking immediate legal action in this serious case of sexual harassment against its female employee and has approached the local police. We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support,” the airline added. (ANI)
