Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 22 (ANI): Kalpana Pawar, wife of police constable Ambadas Pawar, who died bravely in the terrorist attack on Mumbai on 26 November 2008, has been appointed as Probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a press statement.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday gave direct appointment orders to Pawar as Probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police.
According to a statement from the Maharashtra CMO, CM Fadnavis has continuously provided justice to the common people while leading the state. While thanking the Chief Minister and the state government, Pawar expressed the feeling that CM Fadnavis, who takes decisions in the interest of the common people of the state and is a beloved brother of the women of the state, has shown his sensitivity towards the martyrs by directly appointing the wife of a martyred police officer to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Pawar said, “Like my husband, I have also been allowed to serve the country. This government belongs to the farmers, the hardworking people, the beloved sisters, and the martyred heroes who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country. This is being proven once again by my appointment.”
The 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008 were a series of coordinated terrorist strikes by Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeting key city locations, killing over 170 people and injuring hundreds.
Terrorists had targeted civilians at the southern part of Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station, two hospitals, and a theatre. The terrorists also held hostages at three locations- the Nariman House and the luxury hotels Oberoi Trident and Taj Mahal Palace and Tower.
Terror gripped Mumbai for two days, and on November 28, Indian security forces gained control of the situation by killing nine terrorists and arresting one.
Recently, India successfully extradited Tahawwur Rana from the US, who is among the main accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The United States Department of Justice has termed the extradition of convicted terrorist Tahawwur Hussain Rana as “a critical step” toward seeking justice for the victims of the 26/11 heinous Mumbai terror attacks.
