“How many pages are there in Constitution?” Anurag Thakur questions INDIA bloc MPs – World News Network

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Anurag Thakur threw a challenge at the Opposition MPs asking them how many pages are there in the Indian Constitution and saying that they did not even bother to read it but waves it around.
“How many pages are there in the Constitution? How many? Don’t say it is ‘this’ fat. Tell me how many pages are there? You have been roaming around with you every day. Haven’t you bothered to read it once? You do not read but wave it around. Take it out of your pockets and see,” Thakur said in the Lok Sabha on Monday during his speech on the Motion of Thanks on President’s Address.
Hitting out at the Congress for claiming to protect the Constitution, Thakur said that the party has been acting against both the Constitution as well as “secularism”.
“The Constitution is being tossed around like the word secularism, devaluation and demeaning it, that too by a party who has forever been acting against the ethos of both the words,” Thakur said.
In a scathing attack at the Congress for imposing the Emergency in 1975, Thakur said that the party should seek forgiveness from the country for such an action.
“If you are so bent on saving the Constitution, you should state in Parliament that the Congress will never make the mistake of imposing Emergency again…You should also ask for forgiveness from the nation,” the senior BJP MP said.
Continuing his attack against the Congress, for allegedly not supporting BR Ambedkar, who drafted the Constitution, in electoral politics, Thakur said, “The Congress has insulted and kept the person who has given the Constitution out of politics.”
Thakur also took on the Congress for imposing President’s Rule on several occasions for various Opposition-ruled states.
“The Congress government in the Centre has misused Article 356 so many times. They have toppled state governments ruled by the Opposition 93 times. They used to say India is Indira,” he said.
“Just 15 months into the enactment of the Constitution, Nehru tried to apply conditions to Article 19…,” he added.
Slamming the Congress for projecting its improved performance as a great boost to the Opposition and a defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Thakur said, “On the one hand we witnessed the success of Chandrayaan, Aditya L1, while on the other hand has Rahulyaan failed once again? From June 4, they are trying to project that 99 is greater than 240. The Congress got 99 seats this time, one of them left and they were left with 98. They created a record for staying in the Opposition for the third time. But their arrogance and dictatorial way of thinking is still the same.”
The former Union Minister also reminded the Congress that it has never been able to win as many seats as the BJP in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
“When the President said that a stable majority has been attained, they (Congress) created a lot of unrest. When you formed the government in 2004 and 2009 did you get 240 seats? You were not even close. You got only 145 seats…,” he said.
Thakur also took on the Congress for contesting only in a limited number of seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“The country’s oldest political party had only contested in 60 per cent of seats, in 328 seats. And even among them, they lost in 70 per cent of the seats. When a party sets its standard so low and perform below average, they feel that it is overwhelming,” he said.
The Hamirpur MP further hit out at the opposition INDIA bloc saying that the Congress has tied up with partners who are either in jail or on bail.
“When they could not defeat the BJP in the first two times they formed a coalition of those in jail and in bail. There are some (parliamentarians) in bail here as well. Their earlier governments were engaged in multiple scams whether it is 2G scam, Commonwealth scam, submarine scam….they did not leave any scam behind. When they chose their allies, they chose those who were involved in liquor scams, land scams, riverfront scams…,” Thakur said.
Thakur also took a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is in CBI custody saying that they are now able to witness a unique situation, “Work from Jail”.
“One of them (INDIA claimed that he is so righteous that now he is in jail. We had heard about Work from Home, but now we are getting the opportunity to get Work from Jail,” he said.
In an attack on Sam Pitroda who was re-appointed as the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, Thakur questioned whether Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi supports his statement.
“Sam Pitroda who is someone’s uncle, friend, philosopher and guide. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi whether Sam Pitroda’s statement and the Congress ideology the same. If not then why was it essential to take back Uncle Sam in the party? Rahul Gandhi has to take responsibility. Does he support Sam Pitroda’s statement? We will not accept such Naxalite comments. This is an insult to the people of India,” the BJP leader said.
Pitroda had resigned from the position earlier in May this year amid controversies surrounding his remarks regarding the appearance of Indians. The Congress party then distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks.
Objecting to AIMIM Chief Asadudd in Owaisi concluding his oath as a member of the Lok Sabha with the words “Jai Palestine”, Thakur said, “We do not accept “Jai Palestine” slogan as well. Are we moving in the direction that those who hinders to say “Jai Bharat” shout slogans of “Jai Pakistan” and ‘Jai China”. This is unfortunate.”
The BJP leader who had earlier served in the Narendra Modi 2.0 cabinet also listed the achievements of the Narendra Modi government in the last 10 years. (ANI)
